Newbold Verdon Cricket Club
Welcome to the online home of Newbold Verdon Cricket Club. Formed as recently as 1989, we have come a long way as we enter our 20th Anniversary season. In the late 80’s a team was formed and as we enter the 2009 season we plan to field 2 Saturday teams in the Leicestershire Senior League, a Sunday development XI, a Tuesday night team in the South Leics Midweek League as well as junior teams at Under 17, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11 and Kwik Cricket levels.
Despite playing on a council owned ground we are extremely proud of the facilities we provide for cricketers young and old. In 2008 our ground came 2nd out of 26 clubs in the rankings for the Leicestershire Senior League only beaten by Westonians CC who pay £100 per match in order to use the Leicester University cricket ground. This is thanks largely to our excellent pitch and outfield which is maintained voluntarily by a group of club members led by head groundsman Rick Bell.
Through fundraising we are constantly looking to improve the facilities we provide. In recent seasons new mobile nets have been purchased to improve the coaching sessions carried out at the ground by our healthy team of ECB qualified coaches. Two new sightscreens have also been purchased to replace our old homemade efforts making the ground look more presentable and enabling quicker and easier setup in order to use them for junior as well as senior matches.
From the last weekend in April until the second week in September there will be a senior home fixture at the ground every Saturday. The development team play on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons and junior matches take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings as well as Sunday mornings so please feel free to come down and get involved, whether interested in playing or spectating you will be made more than welcome and the kettle is boiling more often than not!
